The weekly survey performed by BankRate.com has revealed that the national average for 30 year fixed rate mortgages has fallen to 4.96%, down from 5.07% last week. The mortgages in the survey had an average total of .5 discount and origination points. Last year at this time, the average mortgage rate was 5.24% and a month ago it was 5.22%
